Easton favoured at left back

Gorman’s dilemma was the fact neither Clint Easton, or David Perpetuini had much experience playing in the position, as the side travelled to face Shrewsbury at Gay Meadow.

After Gorman signed Perpetuini on a game to game basis last week, he had been favourite to get the nod on the left side of defence. Instead however, the manager opted for Easton. The last time the midfielder played at left back was under Tony Adams – memorable for all the wrong reasons as he suffered a knee injury early on which kept him out of action for the next three months. The 1-0 victory over Shrewsbury was Easton’s first start since recovering.

After a good performance he has probably assured for himself a lengthy run in the side. Gorman, a left back as a player was pleased that the choice hadn’t come back to haunt him.

"Clint Easton had an outstanding game at left-back. I gave him his chance and he took it. His quality was superb. He never missed a header and his distribution to the front boys was great. I just want players to go out and play and he’s done everything I expected and more."
