The 21-year-old agreed a new contract with manager John Gorman and Chairman Ivor Beeks that will tie the player to the club until June 2007.

"I am really pleased," said Johnson, who found himself as third choice centre-back under former Wycombe boss Tony Adams.

Since Gorman's arrival he has been the preferred choice to partner loanee Mike Williamson at the back.

"This time last year I would have not thought this would be possible but since the arrival of the manager he has given me a new approach to things and I am well pleased," Johnson added.

"We are delighted that Roger has signed a new deal. He has done well since my arrival here and I see him as an important player of the future. It shows the ambition of the club to want to keep our younger players it is the way forward," said Gorman.

Youngsters Tony Craig and Stephen Cooke, on loan from Millwall and Aston Villa respectively can now only remain as Wycombe players beyond their current contracts if the club endeavour to secure permanent deals. The Football League's deadline for season long loans passed on the final day of 2004, and Craig's maximum three-month contract at the Causeway is currently set to expire on January 22nd.

Meanwhile Gorman has asked all first team players to wear suits to home games in 2005 rather than tracksuits.

And after two consecutive defeats on their travels during Christmas week and onto New Year's Day, Wycombe returned to the Causeway on Bank Holiday Monday to claim their first point in four games thanks to Nathan Tyson's leveller against Cheltenham Town. The headed goal from a Steve Guppy cross was the Wycombe striker's tenth goal of the season, his first since scoring twice at Bury nearly a month ago.
