Silent celebration

After scoring the 55th minute equaliser at the Causeway on Saturday, Johnson made a point of running towards Macclesfield boss Brian Horton in the visitors’ dug out. Johnson who agreed to a contact extension at the club this month, made a gesture to signal his goal being the last word, after a furious row involving Horton and Wycombe manager John Gorman at the end of the reverse fixture last month.

At the Moss Rose Horton celebrated a late winner that cancelled out Johnson’s goal effort moments before, under the noses of the distraught Chairboys management team.

"I was desperate to shut him up after the way he gave it to John Gorman last time. This was payback time," said Johnson.

Gorman, who recently said the 21-year-old defender was just the sort of character he needed in his squad, was again full of praise for Johnson. Although the Scot admitted the player should be wary of winding up opponents, he was eternally grateful for saving his side from yet another league defeat.

"He has been absolutely magnificent, but there’s still little things about his game that he needs to improve on. If Roger celebrated his goal that way then it was wrong. I have told him he’s still got to learn to be disciplined at times," said Gorman.
