Wycombe Wanderers came from behind to begin their Festive fixtures with a 2-1 win over Macclesfield Town at Adams Park.

After a slow start the visitors took the lead on 17 minutes. Fantastic link-up play between Martin Gritton and Francis Green allowed the latter in on goal and he superbly lifted the ball over the on-rushing Frank Fielding.

Wycombe responded well after the goal and should have been level on 27 minutes, but Leon Johnson sliced his shot over the bar from a Scott McGleish cross.

But the home fans didn't have to wait for much longer as they were level five minutes later. Sean Hessey was harshly adjudged to have fouled Matt Bloomfield in the box and Scott McGleish finished well from the spot to make it 1-1.

Wycombe pushed for the second goal towards the end of the half, but the Silkmen held on to go in at the break all-square.

The second half started very brightly with both teams looking to stamp their authority on the game. Wycombe recorded the first chance of the second half on 51 minutes, but the Chairboys' top scorer McGleish blasted over from 12 yards.

The game began to get stretched after the hour mark with Wycombe looking the more likely to take the lead. In search of the winning goal Paul Lambert reverted to 3-5-2 with Macc old boy Martin Bullock replacing left-back Sam Stockley.

The home side completed their comeback on 74 minutes when, after pinball in the Macclesfield area, the ball fell to McGleish who didn't miss from ten yards.

The striker had a chance to take the match ball home moments later, but after being put through he lashed a shot wide from the edge of the area.
