Bring on the New Year

Wycombe's assistant coach Steve Brown was optimistic looking ahead after recent results had moved the club to sixth place in League Two.

"We hope to pick up as many points as possible over the Christmas period and most of all get through four games in nine days unbeaten if possible, to stamp our intentions for promotion," said Brown.

"It's up to us now we’re ambitious to take the club forward for the sake of the players, the supporters and the management set-up," he added.

However unlike most clubs getting ready for a Boxing Day fixture, the first in that hectic Christmas schedule, Wycombe boss John Gorman offered his players the chance to spend all of Christmas Day at home.

"I don't see the benefit of getting the boys in for half an hour's training. I don't think whatever we could do on Christmas Day will make much difference," offered Gorman.

Well it might have got them out the house at least. After a second defeat in four days since the Christmas weekend Gorman conceded, "We have let our supporters down."

Next up, Wycombe go to Oxford on New Years Day followed by a home fixture with Cheltenham on Tuesday - both corresponding fixtures this season ended in 1-1 draws.
