The 21-year-old had become depressed and was considering a future away from the game after ex-management team Tony Adams and Pete Cawley told the striker he didn’t pass muster.

"I had been told for a year by Tony Adams and Pete Cawley that football wasn't for me and I started to believe it. There were a few of us in the same position where it was obvious that we weren't wanted at the club. Now my confidence is sky high again I really want to come back and prove myself," said Dixon.

Former Arsenal and England captain, Adams hasn’t returned to football after quitting his first job in management back in November. Instead, he runs his own rehabilitation clinic for sportsmen with drug and alcohol addictions.
