Gorman long faced as Blues win

Trailing to a Rushden side two places off the bottom of the table, Gorman’s gamble paid off as the Scot brought on strikers Ian Stonebridge and Jonny Dixon for the final 25 minutes at Nene Park.

The gusty conditions in Northants had played havoc with Gorman’s belief in sticking to attractive football, but the addition of two more strikers whilst keeping Nathan Tyson and Steve Claridge on the park had a turnaround effect on proceedings.

22-year-old Tyson’s winning goal in injury time was the striker’s 12th goal of the season.

Wycombe adopted a route one approach after conceding early in the second half. And the brave move produced a hefty reward when first substitute Matt Bloomfield, hit a belter beyond Lee Worgan in the Rushden goal from 25 yards.

Despite the result Gorman was unhappy his side had been unable to stick to their original gameplan.

"That was nothing like the standards that I want us to play to. It was our poorest performance but I’m not making excuses - the conditions really affected the game and we couldn’t get passing like we normally do," said Gorman.
