Currie who is only nine games short of reaching 500 appearances in the league made 46 appearances for Wycombe last season. He grabbed nine goals along the way, before the 30-year-old was given permission by Tony Adams to join promoted side Brighton & Hove Albion for nothing.

Ipswich Town paid Brighton £250,000 to recruit the midfielder this month - their first cash signing for three years. On his Ipswich debut Currie scored one and had a part in another, after coming on as a substitute in the 4-2 win against QPR at Loftus Road.

"If I do what I'm capable of, then I'm sure everyone will be pleased and, hopefully, I can build on what I did against QPR," Currie told the East Anglian Times.

Currie played against Ipswich at Portman Road for Brighton last month where he missed a good opportunity to salvage a point for the Seagulls.

"The one thing that's stands out about that game was the pitch, which is perfect for passing football, which is what I enjoy," added Currie.

Ipswich skipper Jim Magilton said, "Darren's arrival gives us options in midfield and he has settled in really well. He's always impressed me when I've seen him play. He likes balls played to his feet, and has plenty of self-belief. Darren's always believed he could operate at a much higher level - now he can prove it."
