The 39-year-old had previously worked with Gorman when the Chairboys boss was assistant England coach.

"It’s dragged on a wee bit but I had to make sure I felt right and that my legs could still take me around the pitch. I’ve signed now though and I’m very pleased," said Lee.

After a good performance in a friendly fixture against Norwegian outfit Viking Stavangar last week, Lee, who parted company with Oldham Athletic last season, signed a deal in time to be included in the Wycombe squad for the first time at Cambridge United.

Although his introduction in the second half didn’t produce the desired result for John Gorman’s side, the 39-year-old gave a composed account as Keith Ryan’s replacement in the 59th minute at the Abbey Stadium.
