Not such a chance meeting

John Gorman, former assistant to Glenn Hoddle, may not have been in charge of the club at all had it not been for the new manager's neighbour.

Gorman who lives in Berkshire confessed that Wycombe fanatic Mark Deacon constantly encouraged the Scot to consider a return to Wycombe, following Gorman and Hoddle's departure from Spurs in September 2003.

Whenever we spoke to each other he would tell me that I should still be at the club. After Tony Adams had left the post, he assured me that the club would take me back," said Gorman.

In his first managerial role away from Hoddle’s side since 1994, Gorman has opted to work alongside Wycombe midfielder Keith Ryan and former Chairboy Steve Brown.

Ryan, who took caretaker charge of the club for the interim period of finding Adams successor, was thrilled to be offered a role in the new set up.

"The beauty of being in the assistant's role means that I can still be a part of the dressing room whilst forging a link between the manager and the players," said Ryan.

Brown, who played for the club for ten years is also excited about Wycombe's prospects of gaining a play-off position this season.

"We are lying a league below where we should be and it is up to the three of us to get us straight back up there. That is the first job - to get the club back to where it belongs - then we can look to take it further," he said.
