Penalty decision proves costly

Some dubious penalty decisions in the first half left Wycombe reeling as they failed to capitalise on two home draws in recent games.

Match officials at Hurworth Moor firstly adjudged Steve Williamson to have impeded Darlington striker Clive Wijnhard’s run into the penalty area. After a half hearted claim by the home support, the penalty was awarded, and tucked away by the Dutchman shortly before half time.

Then Wycombe’s head coach Pete Cawley earned himself a place in the stand for the remainder of the afternoon’s proceedings. Cawley remonstrated after Wycombe had considered themselves unfortunate not to be given a penalty themselves after Nathan Tyson looked like he had been brought down unfairly. Nothing was given to the out-of-form marksmen, and Wycombe were unable to reduce the deficit in the second period.
