Philo the key

It marked Philo’s third appearance for the reserves since breaking his ankle in pre-season.

The midfielder, whose contract at the club runs down this summer, burst on the scene under former manager Tony Adams towards the end of last season. The injury was tormenting for both player and coach.

"Some of the compliments he gave me were overwhelming but I know I have got to start again and try and prove myself.

"It was a massive shock when the manager went. He was the one that gave me my chance and to see him go was very disappointing," said Philo.

Assistant manager Steve Brown, who watched from the touchline, believes the youngster is still several games away from a return to the first team fray.

"We need to take our time with him. He’s a very big part in what we’re trying to do here so it’s equally important that he doesn’t have any more setbacks," said Brown.

Matt Bloomfield came through the friendly unscathed after missing Wycombe’s last three games with a hamstring injury.
