Silky chills

21-year-old Jonny Dixon was asked to play out of position at home to Boston United on Saturday after Danny Senda became a late absentee.

Dixon was the unexpected inclusion as John Gorman gave the striker his first start for Wycombe this season.

Not to take anything away from Dixon who performed admirably considering the size of the task. Before having to withdraw with injury, he was tireless for more than an hour in which time he also converted a penalty - his first goal for the League Two club this season.

Full back Silk, on the other hand didn’t get his chance until Gorman was forced into replacing hamstring victim Joe Burnell in the second half. Burnell had returned to the centre of midfield after recovering from an ankle ligament injury. Gorman described his presence in the side as ‘very influential’ despite only making four appearances since taking charge two months ago.

"Everything was going great for me until just recently but things change quickly in football and I am hoping it can change back quickly. I am not getting down about it because I am still a part of the Wycombe squad and I would love to stay at the club. Even though I am not in the first team at the moment I really like it here. There is a real buzz around the place, the training is good and that just makes me more determined to do well," said Silk.

The manager’s self-congratulation of including Dixon, describing his own decision as a brave one, did more to show a lack of faith in the defensive abilities of 19-year-old Silk.

Dixon had criticised former Chairboys manager Tony Adams after returning from a loan spell at Aldershot last week.

The centre forward blamed Adams and his assistant at the time Pete Cawlay for almost causing him to quit the game.
