Keith Ryan, once the eldest himself, started the trend of signing players in their mid-to-late 30’s by bringing in Steve Guppy. John Gorman managed to hold onto the winger for the time being as well as successfully pursuade Steve Claridge to join a squad previously built around youth players.

The latest player to join the club on trial is a few months older than Claridge and Guppy. At 39 years of age Rob Lee is training with the rest of the Wycombe squad after he was released by Oldham Athletic. The former Newcastle United and England midfielder is a surprise choice following John Gorman’s earlier indication he was in search of a striker and a defender.

"People probably wonder why I keep going for players in their thirties but its because I feel we have enough youngsters at the club already," said Gorman.
