Waddock blasts defensive nightmare

Wycombe boss Gary Waddock was pleased with striker Scott Rendell's hat-trick but not with his side's defensive display as they slumped to a 6-3 home defeat to Bristol Rovers in their Johnstone's Paint Trophy Southern Area Quarter-final. Rendell netted three times in the second-half but the Wanderers were overwhelmed by a rampant Pirates side. Waddock said: "Scott (Rendell) took his goals well, but obviously we're on the wrong end of a heavy scoreline. "There were opportunities out there for players to impress and we conceded six goals, so that tells its own story. "If we had been able to see that little spell through at 2-1 and maybe nicked another one, who knows, but it's gone now. "It was a bit of a defensive nightmare from us - there were too many balls into the box with the quality of the strikers that they've got, and they were going to take their opportunities when they came."
