Boston United climbed into play off contention on the strength of a 2-0 success against Wycombe at York Street.

The main man in the Pilgrims success was striker Andy Kirk whose two low shots early in each half proved the difference between the sides.

There was little to choose between the teams in the early stages, although Wycombe twice went close when Danny Senda saw a shot held by Nathan Abbey and then Zema Abbey headed over from a Gus Uhlenbeek cross.

Then on nine minutes the Abbey brothers again figured when a deflected shot by Zema Abbey forced Nathan Abbey into a push away save.

But it was Boston who broke the deadlock on 14 minutes when Kirk fired low past Frank Talia after a mistake by Joe Burnell.

Five minutes later more Boston pressure saw a chance fall to Tom McManus but his rising drive was tipped away by Talia.

Wycombe refused to be down beat and renewed their attacking momentum with Ian Stonebridge and Nathan Tyson both going close with shots from distance.

Boston went two goals clear in the 51st minute when Kirk fired in a low strike from the edge of the box after a neat passing move with Courtney Pitt.

The Chairboys hit back and a curling 20-yard free-kick by Senda forced Abbey into a fine tip over.

Pilgrims had what looked like clear calls for a penalty waved away in the 75th minute when Pitt appeared to be hacked down by Michael Williamson after making his way into the six-yard box.

On 78 minutes the home side almost trebled their lead when David Noble let fly from 20 yards but Talia pushed the ball over the bar.

Wycombe stormed back with a shot on the turn from Stonebridge which tested Abbey and, in stoppage time, Kirk tried his luck from 25 yards but missed out on a hat-trick when his effort sailed wide.
