Wycombe manager Tony Adams refused to give up hope despite seeing his side fall to their 18th defeat of the season – 1-0 at Bournemouth.

Adams said: "I was proud of my players today and it's very frustrating as I felt we could have got a point.

"My team’s worked hard today and gave everything so it's disappointing that we've come away with nothing." Play-off chasing Bournemouth started the first half brightly and were unlucky not to go ahead on ten minutes following a well worked corner routine.

James Hayter’s low corner was dummied by defender Carl Fletcher and Stephen Purches saw his stinging 25-yard effort hit the crossbar and go over.

The home side went close four minutes later when Lewis Buxton's cross fell kindly to Hayter, his half volley was tipped round the post by keeper Steve Williams.

But Bournemouth finally made a breakthrough on 20 minutes when left-back Warren Cumming scored a wonder goal, only his second of the season.

Purches' right hand cross found the edge of the area and the Scottish left-back thumped a volley into the bottom right hand corner from 20 yards.

The visitors rarely threatened in the first half but were unlucky just after the interval when right back Danny Senda saw his thumping shot come back off the upright.

Senda was again involved on 50 minutes when he put through on-loan striker Nathan Tyson only for keeper Neil Moss to recover and save at the second attempt.

Keeper Moss was again called into action on 56 minutes when he tipped over Darren Currie's in-swinging free-kick.

On 67 minutes the lively Tyson again beat the offside trap and rounded keeper Moss only for defender Shaun Maher to be on hand to clear for safety.

Bournemouth manager Sean O'Driscoll said: "Full credit to Tony and his team. They came here with a game plan and it stopped us playing. We never looked comfortable even when we were 1-0 up."
