Cherries in new year cruise

Bournemouth continued their recent improvement with an emphatic 2-0 win over Wycombe with a goal in each half from Wes Thomas and Michael Symes.

The result was never in doubt because Wycombe hardly mustered an opening in the entire match and only won their first corner in the 33rd minute.

By then Bournemouth were ahead when Thomas capitalised on a defensive mistake to score his eighth of the season from 10 yards.

Bournemouth had a host of chances in the second half and Wycombe goalkeeper Nikki Bull made important saves from Wes Fogden, Symes and Marc Pugh.

But there was nothing he could do about Bournemouth's second goal in the 50th minute when Pugh's corner was not cleared properly and Symes headed home from 15 yards via a deflection.

Pugh should have scored twice more when clean through after that, while Wycombe's only effort that caused any concern came just after half-time when Stuart Beavon headed over the crossbar.
