Super Spireites to fight another day

Chesterfield avoided relegation for another week at least and dealt a serious blow to Wycombe's survival hopes with a thumping 4-0 home win.

A first-half goal by top scorer Craig Westcarr and strikes from Franck Moussa, Alex Mendy and Jordan Bowery gave Chesterfield their biggest win of the season and ended Wycombe's seven-match unbeaten run.

Chesterfield, who had to win to preserve their npower League One status, had several good chances to score before Westcarr bundled the ball over the line in the 28th minute when the visitors failed to clear a corner.

Wycombe had been strangely subdued for a team fighting to stay up and failed to improve at the start of the second half as Chesterfield wrapped the game up with two goals in five minutes.

Substitute Scott Boden made an instant impact in the 47th minute when he set up Moussa to drive a low shot past Wycombe goalkeeper Nikki Bull from 18 yards and Mendy curled in the third in the 52nd minute.

Bowery completed a miserable day for Wycombe when he thumped in the fourth from the edge of the penalty area 11 minutes from time.
