Wycombe’s back four which included Charlie Comwyn Platt, played high up to force Shrewsbury striker Luke Rodgers offside on several occasions.

Comyn-Platt, on loan from Bolton was favoured over Roger Johnson, as Tony Adams made one change to the team that drew at Cheltenham last week.

Keeper Frank Talia was forced into two saves denying Rodgers and Kevin Street in the opening five minutes.

Wycombe’s first shot at goal arrived after 15 minutes, easily dealt with by Shrewsbury keeper Scott Howie. Centre-half Stuart Nethercott headed straight at Howie, from a Clint Easton free-kick on 23 minutes.

Keith Ryan who got stuck into a couple of meaty challenges in quick succession was joined in the referee’s notebook by full-back Gus Uhlenbeek.
