Luton Town continued their good form with a second win in a week as they beat John Gorman's Wycombe Wanderers 3-1 in an entertaining game at Kenilworth Road.

Dean Brill, 17, was making only his second league appearance and was tested in the opening minute of the game when Michael Simpson's audacious 25 yard lob came back off the bar with the young keeper struggling to get back.

Luton dominated for large periods of the first half and were guilty of missing numerous opportunities during long spells of sustained pressure on the Wycombe goal.

Both teams missed excellent opportunities to score in the first half, but poor finishing meant the half ended goalless.

The second half made an explosive start when, after only two minutes, Courtney Pitt brought down the Wycombe right back Daniel Senda inside the box, and referee Richard Beeby pointed straight to the spot.

Steve Brown started up confidently and stroked the ball into the bottom corner after sending the teenage keeper the wrong way.

Luton Town were stung into action and drew level with 15 minutes to go when the ball dropped to top scorer Gary McSheffrey and he stabbed the ball home from six yards after Wycombe failed to clear their lines.

Russell Perrett doubled Luton's lead when he scored with a powerful header at the back post with five minutes to go.

McSheffrey, on loan from Coventry until the end of the month, saved the best until last when he sealed the win with a spectacular strike from the edge of the box to take his goal tally for the Hatters to seven this season.

Hatters' boss Mike Newell said: "I'm always happy to win. I have said all along that if the players continue to put in the work we will get the results.

"McSheffrey's goals speak for themselves and his second goal today was real class."
