Scott Rendell's double helped Wycombe maintain their promotion push with a 3-0 victory over struggling Morecambe.

The Shrimps started well but conceded three goals in the final 10 minutes of the first half as the visitors kept alive their automatic promotion hopes.

Sammy McIlroy's side actually started the game superbly and were in charge for the opening 20 minutes. Phil Jevons twice tested Nikki Bull in the Wycombe goal from close range and debutant Zac Aley made a real hash of a glorious chance when he missed his kick.

Wycombe opened the scoring with a controversial penalty on 35 minutes. Gareth Ainsworth went down dramatically, allowing Scott Rendell to send Barry Roche the wrong way.

Two minutes later, the visitors added a second when the evergreen Ainsworth took advantage of some shocking defending from Garry Hunter and Kieran Charnock to run straight down the middle and produce the smartest of finishes to beat Roche.

Rendell made it 3-0 at the break with his second in injury time. Stuart Beavon pulled the ball back and the unmarked striker stroked the ball past Roche from 12 yards out.

The second half saw the Shrimps produced a spirited comeback with Bull saving superbly from Andy Parrish and Scott Brown before Chris Shuker hit the crossbar.

Parrish saw a header cleared off the line by Marvin McCoy as the Shrimps were denied a consolation goal they deserved.
