A game that neither side could afford to lose ended all square after 90 minutes of end-to-end action and probably means that both now have too much to do to challenge for a top seven place.

The home side took a deserved lead on 16 minutes when skipper Gary Jones calmly slotted home from the penalty spot after he had been impeded by Roger Johnson.

Inspired by veteran striker Steve Claridge, the visitors hit back strongly in the second half and drew level on 47 minutes when leading scorer Nathan Tyson raced away to score his 19th goal of the season after latching on to a Clint Easton pass.

The home side were thankful for a series of excellent saves by goalkeeper Matthew Gilks, the best of which saw him keep out a header by Johnson as Rochdale hung on for a share of the spoils.
