Rochdale were outplayed at Spotland by a lively Wycombe side who ran out 2-1 winners.

The visitors took the lead after just seven minutes thanks to Mike Williamson, who took advantage of a bumbling Rochdale defence to turn a free-kick into the net.

Rochdale's defence collapsed again on 23 minutes when Matt Bloomfield took advantage of more poor work by the Dale defence to turn Kevin Betsy's cross into the net.

There could have been more to come but Wycombe's shooting was high and wide too many times and Rochdale lived to give the visitors a late fright after Gary Jones had scored from the penalty spot on 79 minutes after Williamson had floored Rochdale substitute Blair Sturrock.

The spot kick went like lightening past goalkeeper Frank Talia into the net and Rochdale felt they were in with a chance. But if there was a chance, they didn't take it. Though the hardworking Grant Holt made two good and dangerous efforts.

Wycombe had a tough defence and a very lively attack with Nathan Tyson causing Rochdale a great deal of trouble and the striker very nearly got a couple of goals for himself as well.
