Loan striker Michael Boulding turned in an impressive performance to become an instant Sheffield United hero.

The 26-year-old Blades supporter made his first start since arriving on loan from Aston Villa.

His full debut turned into a dream night as he took Bramall Lane by storm and crowned the evening with a stunning goal.

The former tennis professional turned down a move from Grimsby to Bramall Lane in the summer and instead switched to Aston Villa.

He agreed to the loan move to Bramall Lane after failing to break into the Villa first team and made his mark 15 minutes after his first start.

Boulding had already showed flashes of his tasty footwork but saw his chance of glory when he collected Michael Brown's neat throughball, cut in from the left and rifled a low 25-yard shot inside Martin Taylor's left-hand post.

Wycombe had already lived dangerously with Phil Jagielka and Wayne Allison both going close before Boulding's strike.

Second division strugglers Wycombe found it hard going but United defender Ben Doane came close to giving them a leveller when he sliced a panic clearance out for a corner. And Stuart Roberts failed to control when a cross from Danny Senda caught out the home defence.

Three minutes after the break United stretched their lead and again Boulding was involved.

Boulding made a surging run before cutting back a perfect ball for Brown to slot in his shot from six yards for the second.

And only a timely challenge from Andy Thomson halted another blistering break as Boulding threatened to add a third.

Wycombe's miserable night was complete when keeper Martin Taylor was sent off after handling the ball outside the area at the feet of Peter Ndlovu after 75 minutes.

And worse followed as United added two more goals from Nick Montgomery and Michael Brown in the 86th and 87th minutes before Wycombe's consolation from Paul McCarthy
