Normal service was resumed as Wigan Athletic got back to winning ways with a comprehensive victory over Wycombe Wanderers at the JJB Stadium.

After winning their first four games, Wigan had been hit by an attack of the jitters and lost their last two encounters, but they banished any fears in this game with a throughly comprehensive and impressive performance.

Lee McCulloch gave then a second minute lead with a close range drive and when Andy Liddell added a second after 36 minutes the home side were coasting.

The visitors, who had been impressive in their previous two games and picked up two victories were seldom in the hunt against a lively home side.

The three-man strike force of Sean Devine, Andy Rammell and Craig Faulconbridge were superbly marshalled by the Wigan defence and but for some fine goalkeeping by Wycombe keeper Frank Talia the Wigan victory would have been even more impressive.

As it was, they had to wait until the dying seconds to confirm their superiority when Liddell rambed home his second goal and Wigan's third
