Cherries pick off Wanderers

Marc Pugh`s first-half effort piled more misery on struggling Wycombe as Bournemouth claimed all three points from their trip to Adams Park.

Bournemouth almost took the lead after 10 minutes when Wes Thomas rounded goalkeeper Nikki Bull and found Wes Fogden, but his shot was cleared off the line by Grant Basey.

The dangerous Fogden had another opportunity five minutes later, but this time Bull palmed his shot away.

The visitors got the goal their dominance deserved after 23 minutes when Thomas fed Fogden down the left and his low cross was turned in at the far post by Pugh.

Wycombe were gifted a way back into the game when Joel Grant was brought down by Scott Malone after 34 minutes, but Stuart Beavon blazed the penalty over.

Bull had to be alert to push Thomas' effort round the post early in the second half.

Grant had a chance for the home side six minutes later, making a 60-yard run from a corner, but firing straight at Darryl Flahavan.

Substitute Scott Donnelly hit a speculative 25-yard volley wide and Grant's header was tipped over by Flahavan after taking a nasty bounce.

As the hosts searched for an equaliser, Thomas almost extended Bournemouth`s lead after 82 minutes, crashing a header against the post from a Simon Francis cross.
