For a clash long awaited by the two sets of fans, Wycombe’s final home fixture of the season seemed more like the Mad Hatters Tea Party for the first 45 minutes.

Both sides missed half-chances as the art of attack seemed to be lacking in both camps.

Danny Senda got down the right to cross into the area, but Richard McKinney in the Colchester goal fisted the ball away and Richard Harris fired the rebound wide.

At the other end Dean Morgan turned Senda before bringing a fine save from Frank Talia in the Wycombe goal. However, the fear factor seemed to be prevalent as it was a half for defenders.

Stuart Roberts replaced Darren Currie on 56 minutes and livened up proceedings for the home side as Jonny Dixon went on a run and his 20-yard shot brought a flying save from McKinney on 67 minutes.

Sam Stockley then crossed from the right, finding Scott McGleish whose header was deflected by Andy Thomson.

Kem Izzet struck the bar and then headed the rebound for Chris Vinnicombe to clear off the line on 73 minutes.

With ten minutes remaining, Wycombe upped the pace in search of a goal as Colchester looked leggy. Substitute Ian Simpemba almost threw it all away when he allowed McGleish in, but his final effort went straight to Talia on 85 minutes.

Unfortunately the game petered out to a dull 0-0 draw, as so many end of season games do.
