Crewe continued their excellent recent form by deservedly winning 2-1 at Wycombe's Adams Park.

All the goals came in the first half with Wycombe scoring first in the third minute from a Sean Devine penalty before a brace from Rob Hulse won the game for Crewe.

Wycombe had a dream start to the match when after just three minutes Darren Currie crossed from the right, goalkeeper Clayton Ince palmed the ball away and Crewe midfielder Neil Sorvel handled the ball in the area.

Mr Cable had no hesitation in pointing to the spot. Devine sent Ince the wrong way from the spot for his third goal of the season.

Crewe equalised on 26 minutes when Kenny Lunt floated in a free-kick which was met on the full by Hulse who guided the ball into the net.

The visitors took the lead after 31 minutes after good work on the right between Ben Rix and David Brammer. The ball was fed across the area and Hulse had the easy task of converting the ball at the far post for his second goal of the game.

Steve Brown almost netted an equaliser for Wycombe against the run of play when his shot from the edge of the area crashed against the Crewe crossbar. Devine nodded in the rebound only to see the assistant referee raise his flag for offside.

Wycombe started the second half well. In the first minute of the half a cross by Michael Simpson found Craig Faulconbridge and his effort was blocked by Ince in the Crewe goal and then Brown drove the rebound goalwards only to see Richard Walker block the ball on the line.

Wycombe manager Lawrie Sanchez, made three substitutions in the second half, bringing on young Johnny Dixon to no effect. In the 89th minute the home side sub Stuart Roberts drove a cross in from the left which striker Faulconbridge just failed to reach.

Despite a few alarms the Crewe defence held out for the four minutes of added-on time at the end of the second half to take the spoils
