The home side opened really well, putting the Rushden defence under pressure. Rushden warmed to the task and got ten men back behind the ball.
After 10 minutes Stefan Oakes volleyed a shot from a corner just wide and on 14 minutes Kevin Betsy fed Tommy Mooney who tried to lob Andy Woodman in the Rushden goal, but only succeeded in lobbing the effort into his arms. Clint Easton sent a ball to the far post on 28 minutes and Betsy cut in to drive just wide of the goal.
The goal then fell into a sloppy stage where Rushden looked comfortable and began to get men forward. Their best chance came on 34 minutes when Marcus Kelly wriggled his way through to bring a good save from Andy Lonergan low to his left.
The second half began with Rushden going close when Phil Gulliver headed over after a cross from the right. Wycombe then took up the running but despite the urging of the crowd, they struggled to penetrate the goal. Kelly had another effort after 76 minutes to see Lonergan make his second save of the match.
Sixteen-year-old Lee Tomlin ghosted past two defenders to bring a fine save from Lonergan and with the minutes ticking away Rushden pressed on looking for the points.
The game finished with neither team able to break the deadlock and Wycombe completed a new club record with 14 unbeaten games at the start of any season in their near 120-year history.
