Wycombe booked their place in the next round of the LDV Vans Trophy as Guy Branston's header earned them a 1-0 win over Cambridge.

Branston headed in a Roger Johnson knock back following a cross from Chris Vinnicombe on 20 minutes.

Cambridge tried to get back into the game before the interval with their 39-year-old manager John Taylor proving to be the biggest danger.

The second half saw Steve Brown replace Johnson as the home side reverted to a normal 4-4-2 formation.

Shane Tudor had a chance to equalise for the visitors as he rounded keeper Frank Talia but could only shoot wide on 47 minutes.

Michael Simpson thundered a shot from 25 yards that brought a good save from Sean Marshall in the Cambridge goal on 63 minutes.

A Darren Currie free-kick was headed over by Brown who was well placed on 69 minutes, but the home side could not find a finish.

Cambridge put some good football together and for the first time looked threatening in the match, but despite the huffing and puffing from both sides, the game ended 1-0 to Wanderers.
