Wycombe's winless streak was stretched to six games following a rather tame 1-1 draw with Rushden & Diamonds.

The Northants outfit deserved their point for their evenings efforts that saw them play the last 20 minutes with ten men.

Both sides had already squandered presentable chances before the home side took the lead after 14 minutes.

A lovely ball by Danny Senda found Arsenal loanee Adam Birchall and he finished superbly for his third goal of the campaign.

The lead lasted only four minutes, a rather aimless ball into the area found Gary Mulligan whose overhead kick found the corner of the net with Wycombe keeper Frank Talia caught by surprise.

The visitors almost took what in truth would have been an undeserved lead when from their only corner of the period, right on half time, Graham Allen headed firmly downwards, but Talia was down well to save.

The visitors continued to look dangerous and started to exude confidence. Craig Dove who was booked in the first half for dissent, struck a superb shot from 25 yards which fizzed just wide of Talia's left-hand post.

The game turned in less than ten seconds in the 71st minute. First Drewe Broughton was clean through and struck a fierce shot from 18 yards which was kept out miraculously one-handed by Talia.

The play switched quickly to the other end as Nathan Tyson was held back as he raced goalwards. The referee showed Allen a straight red card and from the resulting free kick 25 yards out, Senda's shot was well saved by Billy Turley.

With six minutes to go Tyson was again clean through; his shot beat Turley but agonisingly for the home supporters it rebounded back into play off the near post and was quickly cleared.
