Wycombe Wanderers fought their way back from a goal down to record an impressive 4-2 victory over Ian Rush's Chester City at the Causeway Stadium.

The Chairboys could and should have been well ahead before they fell behind with Ian Stonebridge, Joe Burnell and Nathan Tyson all missing good chances.

However it was Michael Branch who put Chester in front on 26 minutes when a mistake by Stonebridge allowed him to go on and beat Frank Talia from just inside the area.

Wycombe worked hard and finally got back into the game just before the half time break. Roger Johnson flicked on a throw-in by Clint Easton and Tyson pounced to equalise.

Immediately afterwards Burnell should have put the home side in front, after Gus Uhlenbeek set up Burnell four yards out, but his effort came back off the crossbar.

Wycombe did go in front on 51 minutes after some fine play by Matt Bloomfield laid the ball on a plate for Tyson to score number 18 of the season.

Wycombe were rampant and thought they should have had a penalty when Stonebridge was tripped in the box, but the referee booked the Wycombe man for allegedly diving.

Chester were in danger of being swamped as first Uhlenbeek made it 3-1 on 57 minutes and then Johnson added to the score on 58 minutes.

Veteran Steve Claridge came on for Wycombe and Ashley Sestanovich for Chester.

A break by Tyson almost brought his hat trick on 77 minutes when his shot across the goal just evaded the far post, while Chester nearly scored a second when Branch collected the ball in the Wycombe box and fired just over on 80 minutes.

Eventually the visitors scored their second when Uhlenbeek handled in the area and Branch stepped up to score from the spot.
